We have a new client!

Yesterday we met with Meghan Asha of TMI Weekly. Check out her website: www.tmiweekly.com….apparently over the past few weeks she’s been following our site and has become a big fan of A&J Interiors.

Meghan’s just as sweet as she is beautiful and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be designing her awesome SOHO apartment. Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we post before shots and our initial idea boards. It’s sure to be interesting. We can wait to get started and know this is going to be a really fun collaboration!

Here’s a teaser:

Meghan describes her design style as “Modern Boudoir.”
We love that!!!

Phase 2: Julia and Chad’s Patio

J&C’s patio provides an ideal space for outdoor entertaining, a first priority. Second on our design to-do list was incorporating color. Inspired by Frida Kahlo (see our April 20 entry) we settled on a blue hue and from there everything fell into place. Check out our final picks below! We’re pretty proud considering that excluding decking the tab comes in at $789. What do you think?

As you’ll see in our computer rendered floor plan, all of our selections fit in a careful arrangement on the patio, but can be easily moved to accommodate different occasions and festivities. Along the left, decking evens out the floor while maintaining necessary water drainage underneath the wood panels. An inset planter lines up with the decking on the right and provides play space for little Mallo to roll around in a city novelty: grass!

Julia and Chad Update!

We’re thrilled to share that Julia and Chad revised their living room according to our suggestions! We’re also thrilled because this illustrates how A&J Interiors is able to design from a distance. Eventhough the couple lives in Philadelphia our initial consultation, combined with conference calls and communication through our blog and through email exchanges, allowed this project to be completed successfully.

To finish the look they’ve mixed and matched from our high and low design and even added twists of their own like the mirror above the fireplace. Check out the shot Julia sent us below and see for yourself. We think the room looks great, but what do you think! They completed the look and stayed in budget. Here’s a synopsis:

They LOVED the wine storage cabinet, the drapery and the ottomans from our high list. With regards to lighting, J&C really wanted a blue lamp but still wanted to save money so they were stoked to find one locally for only $60. Now all that’s left is blue accents to go with the lamp, which brings out colors in the art. Instead of purchasing two blue trays, they took the tray from the wine storage cabinet and placed it on top of the ottomans – an economical solution we love!!

But really we’re just so happy that they’re so happy. As Julia said “we were so surprised! there wasn’t one thing among your suggestions that we wouldn’t have picked out ourselves.” And that is exactly what we were striving for. We wanted to complete the look as they would have if they had the time and resources to do so themselves.

Be sure to stay tuned as we’ll start posting ideas for the patio very soon. Since in this phase we’ll be working from scratch we’re planning to have some fun and push the envelope a bit more….

Phase 1: Julia and Chad’s Living Room

Julia and Chad got off to a great start, but they needed A&J Interiors to put all of the missing pieces into the puzzle. Below are two plans divided by price range into High and Low categories. Each showcases items that will complete the design of their living room. We searched long and hard and found pieces that work with their existing furnishings, are beautiful, are affordable (some more so than others) and are perfectly proportioned to make the most of the small space. So please, check out the plans and let us know what you think!

Our New Project: Julia and Chad’s Place

jandc

Meet Julia, Chad and Mallo. They live in this adorable row house, otherwise known in South Philadelphia as a Trinity house (stay tuned for fascinating historical facts on that later…).

Built in the 1700s, the house, which is located on a narrow walk street bursting with personality, has been through many a renovation and was stripped of nearly all historical details. Fortunately an abundance of charm is still found throughout and without, (just check out those awesome Art Deco inspired green custom grates. Miami would be so jealous! And is that a solid chunk of marble as a front step? Wow.). We have to admit, Julia and Chad got off to a great design start, but they do need our help completing the puzzle as you’ll see in some of the shots posted below. A&J’s four main objectives: flush out the living room, create a cozy sunroom designed around Chad’s awesome mural, and convert the two outdoor spaces into sweet entertaining spots.

Stay tuned on a daily basis over the next couple of weeks as we post our ideas for Julia, Chad and Mallo and be sure to let us know what you think!

50’s Modern

We are currently updating this 50’s modern vacation home in Sarasota, Florida. Check back to see how the design develops!

These are two of the affordable wall covering options we’re considering for the dining room. The texture of the blue grass cloth is hard to resist, but the graphic black and neutral would really spice up the conservative space. What do you think? Astek’s Passions of the Orient Grasscloth or Graham & Brown’s Chrysanthemum Black modern floral?
